I think this might be a neat idea. Maybe I'm the only one though.

I don't care who makes it (although the person who does will probably do ok.), I just think it should exist.

Making it is probably much easier said than done. I've searched and searched for a 43things clone CMS and found nothing...

Any thoughts?

I see your point.
But it would also be about things you want to do that are Japan-related. For example, "pass level 1 JLPT test," "learn Keigo," "find good online Kanji cards," etc.
People who want to do the same thing could discuss progress and share ideas, just like on the 43things site.

If there was a script, it would be worth a go. It's a good way to find people with the same goals as you, that's for sure.
